Remember décor in the 80’s and 90’s? Cane furniture, pot plants by the dozen hanging from macramé’s and palms in the corners in shiny pottery planters……. As I write this, I shudder from those memories of dusting the leaves and trying to keep them alive – I hated them…………..but love or hate them – Indoor pot plants have made a comeback in the interior décor world – especially over-sized ones.
Greenery is back in with a vengeance!!!
Place your plants in woven baskets, or light containers to create a soft and romantic look……
Loving the different shades of grey in décor at the moment – in contrast with the different shades of green – and Scandi Style furniture……. a classic look that won’t out-date any time soon – try not only use live plants for this look – make or buy prints …….. This stylist has added the grey rug, grey woolen scatter cushion and soft pink knitted blanket for a warm and cosy appeal for Winter – take these elements away and you have a cool and clean Summer look!
For a contemporary and interesting focal point, consider adding geometric shapes in your soft furnishings, next to the rounded shapes of your planters or baskets containing your greens.
See how the indoor plants here have neutralized and softened the harsh lines of these two ultra-modern rooms – the colour pop of yellow also works beautifully in contrast.
How I love @HOMES new range of velvet furniture and furnishings – so richly luxurious and plush for cold Wintry Cape Days – one would think the look would be too dramatic….. – but see how the stylist has added the metallic gold pieces mixed with the indoor plants, adding an unexpected feminine pop and neutralizing the severity.
The same type and size of plants symmetrically placed adjacently mirrors the effect of each other perfectly and creating a well-proportioned and balanced interior – Extremely pleasing on the eye as shown in these two pics….
Place your over-sized pot next to a mirror to enhance and capture the magnitude in double vision – this is especially true in a small space creating the optical illusion of a bigger room
If finances do not allow for an over-sized plant – bunch them up together as this stylist has shown and Viola ……. Gorgeously soft focal points!
Don’t let the lack of funds (large indoor plants are pricey!) stop you from creating the look you want and keeping you away from current trends – cheat by buying prints of tropical plants or throw in a scatter cushion or two – this will create the look you are after….
If you feel you are unsure about investing in over-sized indoor plants but would like to experiment with the idea –try cutting a piece out your garden or buy from the flower section at your local Woolies and stick in a glass vase that instant focal point……..
